Strategic Partnership Builds Bridges to Opportunity

The Northside Neighborhood Alliance (NNA) comprised of residents, community partners and 11 of the 13 NRP neighborhood organizations; have worked together to commission an economic market scan for the entire North Minneapolis region.  The report is entitled “A Strategy for North Minneapolis: Retail, Industrial/Office and Workforce”. The scan provides vital information and opportunities that will enhance and move North Minneapolis into the spot light as a potential place for economic prosperity.

The scan provides the NNA and the North Minneapolis community at-large with a vital tool for building partnerships and planning for the growth of the North Minneapolis region.  With the market scan as their guide the NNA will begin its strategic planning for the region.  The NNA has identified several potential priorities that are supported by the scan which includes the following items:

  • Establish Community Benefits Agreements (CBA) for all Northside development projects

  • Develop appropriate allocation plan of CLIC budget resources for Northside projects

  • Develop investment pool for mortgage foreclosure, home/business ownership and ownership education

  • Develop investment strategies for North Minneapolis Commercial and community corridors

  • Develop plan for community assets to be retained, maintained, enhanced and amplified
  • Develop community driven development plans to be adopted by the City of Mpls

  • The restoration of the Citizen Participation Process and protection of the established NRP neighborhood organizations
The next NNA meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, July 31 at 6pm at NorthWay Community Trust, 1501 W. Broadway Ave. NNA is looking for additional community input to determine priorities and identify opportunities for economic development of the region. If you'd like to review the proposed priorities before the July 31 NNA meeting, please contact Lance Knuckles, NorthWay's Outreach Program Manager and the NNA's Technical Assistance Staff at 612-521-4500 or via email.
