KMOJ has come home to North Minneapolis in its new location, the 5 Points building on the corner of West Broadway Avenue and Penn Avenue North. KMOJ Radio will occupy 3,329 square feet of space in the newly renovated building.
Tony Tolliver, KMOJ’s Board President said, “We are absolutely thrilled about the new location and this is one of many wonderful upgrades planned for the station.
The 5 Points Building, built in 1907 had been a landmark on the North side for years until its doors closed in 1996. The original structure of the building was saved but reoriented to face the five corners intersection of West Broadway, Penn, and McNair Avenue. The front will now open to a 2300 square foot plaza, with outdoor seating, a transit stop and public art.

Welcome home, KMOJ
• Strengthen engagement of families to support kids in school.

• Encourage families to use NAZ Connect to establish an achievement plan, facilitate connection to opportu¬nities, and ensure alignment between early education and out-of-school time activities

NAZ is currently facilitating an unprecedented collaboration of public, charter, and contract alternative K-12 schools. Ten of the partnering schools have committed to become NAZ Pilot Schools, where promising and proven strategies will be implemented, student progress will be uniformly measured and reported to the community, and excuses for poor student achievement will not tolerated. As the planning phase for this initiative culminates, the following strategies have been selected as key focuses for the pilot schools:

• Develop strategies and leadership to ensure that ALL students in pilot schools have a common and rigorous academic experience.

• Increase out-of-school time and early childhood learning opportunities, and solidify link with in-school.

• Report progress publicly to share practices that work and ensure work toward continuous improvement

The outcomes of this unprecedented local school-based work through NAZ will be movement toward our shared goal of all kids college ready.

With the urging of The Harrison Neighborhood Association the Minneapolis City Council struck language committing the City to sell land to Hennepin County for a commuter rail storage facility. The City Council directed staff to study joint development strategies instead. This issue is not settled. The Hennepin County Regional Rail Authority is studying the feasibility of multiple commuter rail storage sites. Their study should be completed by June, 2010. A rail storage workgroup will meet the 4th Monday of the month at 6:30 pm at the HNA offices, located at 503 Irving Avenue North.
