FLOW: Northside Arts Crawl celebrates a five-year milestone on Saturday, July 24th. This year promises to be bigger than ever.

Since 2006, Flow Nortsdide arts carnival imageFLOW has become the premier art event in North Minneapolis. This free, family-friendly event is a unique collaboration between the business and arts communities that showcases artists who live and/or work in North Minneapolis.

While FLOW is centered on West Broadway Avenue, there are events all over North Minneapolis. Click on this link for a map of all of the locations:

As a self-guided tour of visual and performing artists, businesses, studios and organizations along West Broadway in North Minneapolis FLOW is wonderful. As a celebration of the spirit of a community it is unparalleled.

You can expect to see: Visual Art, Sculpture, Wearable Art, Dance Performances, Theater Performances, Live Music, Spoken Word, Art Making Activities, Art in Real Time and “Let It Flow” Youth Talent Show.

The corner of West Broadway and Penn will be busier than ever with more live music. Look for the outdoor photo studio outside BroadwayLiquor Outlet where Pat Carney from The Carney Groupwill be shooting free portraits. Click here for last year’s photos. They were a big hit.

It is NAZ’s belief that the educational achievement gap does not start at kindergarten—it starts in the womb. ToNorthway Achievment Zone meet the needs of children at all stages of their development, NAZ will provide a connected stream of effective services that directly impact a child’s education. Strategies will range from early childhood, such as, timely pre-natal care and pre-school screenings, to the effective implementation of educational reform strategies in the Zone’s pilot schools.

NAZ continues to build strategic partnerships to create a culture of achievement. NorthWay Community Trust has supported the efforts of Northside Achievement Zone
Hennepin County Sentencing to Service (STS) and the West Broadway Business and Area Coalition are spearheading a Graffiti Removal Project for neighborhood businesses and neighborhoods on the northside.

If there is grafitti you would like removed, email Erin Jerabek or call the West Broadway Business and Area Coalition at 612-353-5178 for a permission sheet. Permission sheets can also be found online.

In most cases, the graffi ti will simply be covered with paint to obscure the markings.

Hennepin County says it does not guarantee the paint will match the color of the building.
Outcomes identifi ed by Early Childhood Action Team (in draft form) to work toward:
  • Every pregnant woman living in the zone has access to quality, prenatal care by months.
  • Every child living in the zone will be screened at 3 years of age.
  • Every family living in the zone has access to choices for early education and activities.
  • Every family living in the zone has access to information and support around parenting.
  • Providers working in the zone have the necessary resources, access and supports for quality improvements.

The Capri Theater has restructured the Legends series reducing from fi ve shows to just three this year. All these shows will be presented 7 p.m. Saturday nights and 3 p.m. Sunday afternoons. Tickets will only be available through season ticket sales this summer.

The series is $60 for either Saturday evening or Sunday afternoon. This is $15 off single ticket prices.

• Through Friday, July 16: Season ticket holders can exchange location or move between Saturday and Sunday.

• Monday, July 26, through Tuesday, Aug. 31: Anyone can purchase a new season ticket for Legends.
• Wednesday, Sept. 1: Single tickets go on sale to the general public.
