| May 22nd, 2010, The Peace Foundation, Northside Achievement Zone and Urban Homeworks were all sponsors for this year's GO Northside 5K Run/Walk & Finish Line Festival on Saturday, May 22nd. Cottage Park was the location for both the start and finish of the race. One of the highlights of the day was the first annual GO! KIDS FUN RUN for youth |
ages 10 years and under. All the KIDS FUN RUN racers finished. Everyone was a winner. A summer downpour during the 5K race dampened the runners and spectators, but not the event's enthusiasm. |

Emerge Community Development purchased the old North Branch Library in 2009 with plans to redevelop this historic building into the Emerge Career and Technology Center. The Career and Technology Center is deigned to reduce the digital divide by opening local access to technology. Employers, training institutions and educational programs will be together daily in one place. The Career and Technology Center will blend traditional classroom instruction, state of the art technology, and hands-on technical training environments to open doors to the technology careers of today and tomorrow. The work of Emerge to establish The Career and Technology Center is a perfect fit for their commitment to develop people and places together. This community landmark’s new legacy will serve the future of Northside residents and job seekers. |
Emerge received an early predevelopment loan from LISC which was guaranteed by NorthWay Community Trust for this project. The North Branch Library project will create new space for community groups and organizations to convene with access to state-of the art multi-media technology. There is currently an appropriation request for Fiscal Year 2011 written by Representative Keith Ellison to aid in this restoration. The new North Branch Library will use renewable energy to reduce the carbon footprint, increasing its long term sustainability. They will also create additional office space for emerging or mature organizations. Visit the Emerge web site at www.emerge-mn.com |

Opening the night, Curtis Marlatt brings his The Brothers Curtis four piece act to the stage, featuring Curtis Blake on harmonica. |
