On Saturday, November 21st PEACE Foundation and Twin Cities RISE, funded by NorthWay, held a final Empowerment Training session for (NAZ) Northside Achievement Zone Connectors.
21 people were recruited for the first class to become NAZ Connectors. They have been trained in empowerment strategies and are to move out into the community and assist in realizing the NAZ vision:
1. Educational Impact Strategy:
Best-practices will be identified to successfully educate kids from low-income, minority communities. Resources will be developed to institute practices to scale to improve educational outcomes in the Zone.
2. Family Engagement Strategy:
Northside Achievement Zone outreach and engagement strategies are offered directly to families through NAZ. We will implement an engagement process to support youth and families in their achievement plans. The long-term goal will be to infuse meaningful, positive messaging to families in the Zone to break the emotional and cultural barriers to achievement.
3. Coordination Strategy:
NAZ will revolutionize the way existing area service-providers work together. We will refocus efforts around clear outcomes for families and children. Local schools, mentoring programs, family support organizations, health services, arts organizations and worship organizations will work in coordination with each other around a shared achievement plan for kids in the Zone. Where one program ends, another picks up the process of supporting NAZ kids. |

It is time for the Annual Children's Gift Sale.
Children in North Minneapolis with no money to buy presents for their family can purchase 5 new gifts for a small donation of one dollar.
Help these children give the joy of giving as they select that special |
something for loved ones. We encourage you to participate in this fun project individually, as a family, WELCA or youth group, Bible Study, book or garden club.
We need over 5,000 gifts and over 300 volunteers or transform our facility and help over 1,000 youths shop for their loved ones on the day of the event. |
