  The BEAM is designed to keep you up to date and in the loop on North Minneapolis partnerships, programs and people. This monthly “quick read” provides current news briefs from NorthWay Community Trust and its partners.

Northsiders and friends celebrated the 6th Annual PEACE Ball at Lincoln School on October 10th.
With many successes to celebrate, the PEACE Foundation has been instrumental in engaging the broader community in issues specific to Minneapolis's north side.

We got our groove on to dance floor favorite, Soul Tight Committee and the acoustic music of Star Tribune “local top 10 artist” Chastity Brown.
The Silent Auction and a photographic display by Northside photographer Tobechi Tobechukwu, helped to create dialogue and serve as an impetus for social change, reconciliation and healing.

October 15, 2009 - A working group of 20 people involved in development projects in North Minneapolis with a concentration on West Broadway Avenue met at Emerge offices to discuss the kinds of communication efforts necessary to move all of these plans ahead. The Comprehensive Community Development Group will continue to meet as long as there is a need for communication and funding for these projects.

"We're trying to work ourselves out of a job, here," said Ron Price, Senior Program Officer with Twin Cities LISC.
Anne Little Long, Executive Director of Plymouth Christian Youth Center, said, "Around the country others are marveling at the cooperation exhibited among the different efforts going on in North Minneapolis."

  WomenVenture in partnership with Northway Community Trust will offer its next five-week class series for would-be franchise owners. The classes will be taught by Minneapolis WomenVenture Branch Director Maliha Husain.
Cost for the entire series is $100.
  This class will be the first training hosted by WomenVenture through its newly opened Minneapolis office.
The class will cover: determining your income needs; retail sales versus performing a service; how many hours of work will be required; where will financing come from;
  royalty payments; and manage the business yourself or hire a manager.
The first of five sessions will be held Monday, Nov. 16, 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Emerge: 1101 West Broadway in Minneapolis. The remaining four classes will be held on subsequent Wednesday evenings.
