Get Financially Fit!
Can you – or do you know someone who can – benefit from learning how to manage a personal budget? In a free, one-hour introductory session, find out how to take control of your money, get out of debt and become financially fit. 6:00pm, Wednesday, September 12 During this session, you’ll also have the opportunity to sign up for a more intensive money management class, “From Debt to Assets: Four Cornerstones of Financial Literacy.” This four-session community class will be held from 9:30am – 12:30pm on Saturdays, September 22 – October 13 at Shiloh Temple International Ministries, 1201 W. Broadway Avenue. Reservations for this class are requested. WomenVenture, in partnership with Shiloh Temple International Ministries and NorthWay Community Trust, is bringing Financial Literacy Services to North Minneapolis. Global Warming: Local Impacts, Local Solutions“Greener Possibilities” to be held September 27 The City of Minneapolis is partnering with the Cleveland Neighborhood Association (CNA) to present a “Greener Possibilities” community event to anyone who wants to learn more about global warming and how to fight it. 6:30pm, Thursday, September 27 Daniel Huff, Sustainability Coordinator for the City of Minneapolis, will present the slide show seen in Al Gore’s Oscar-winning film “An Inconvenient Truth”. You’ll have a chance to ask questions and learn what you can do to fight global warming right here in North Minneapolis. Other confirmed presenters include the Center for Energy and Environment and HourCar, a local car-share program. All attendees will be eligible for a drawing to win a free home energy audit. The Cleveland Neighborhood is one of 13 neighborhoods in North Minneapolis and works with the other neighborhoods on regional efforts including the North Housing Fair, Northside Spring Cleaning and Greening Day, Youth Engagement Project and the Northside Neighborhood Alliance. The Northside Marketing Task Force (NMTF) is wrapping up its town hall meetings and preparing for a community celebration later this fall. The event will highlight the positive assets of North Minneapolis and will include the presentation of the proposed new community identity (logo, slogans, etc). Also featured will be the election of a new NMTF Board to guide the campaign promoting the new community identity. Watch for details in October’s issue of The Beam. The North Minneapolis Early Care and Education Project is underway. New Project Coordinator Mary Stalter-Gulling (mary.s-g@hotmail.com) is listening to parents, caregivers and organizations concerned about early care and education in North Minneapolis. The result of her work will be recommendations for improving Northside children’s readiness to succeed in school. Obviously, there are many folks to talk with! Contact her if you have ideas or suggestions. Partnership Investment Letters of Intent due October 15NorthWay’s Partnership Investment focus is to support collaborations that connect adults and youth with a network of services and approaches that no single program can provide. A Partnership Investment financial contribution is considered a one-time “seed money” investment, and a one-to-one match in leveraged assets from the collaborative partnership is required. Organizations interested in applying for a Cycle 2 NorthWay Partnership Investment must submit a Letter of Intent by Noon on Monday, October 15. Those selected to make a full proposal will be notified by November 15. Cycle 1 Partnership Investment awards will be announced in early October.
