Mayor Rybak to attend Northside Neighborhood Alliance MeetingSeptember 5 meeting open to the public
This Tuesday, September 5, from 6-8 p.m., Mayor R.T. Rybak will attend the Northside Neighborhood Alliance meeting to discuss developing a Memorandum of Understanding for establishing stronger partnerships with North Minneapolis neighborhoods. The meeting will be held at NorthWay offices, 1500 W. Broadway. For more information, call NorthWay at 612-521-4500. North Side Agencies to award scholarships to community youthThe Northway Community Trust Board recently approved a partnership investment of $3,000 to North Side Agencies (NSA), a partnership of several community organizations, to provide 12 scholarships to Northside residents. One of the criteria for selection will be the applicant’s commitment to the betterment of the North Minneapolis through their volunteer activities. For more information, contact Howard Root at NSA, 612-668-2890. A reminder that NorthWay Community Trust partnership investments are awarded quarterly. The next deadline to submit a partnership investment proposal is November 3. Proposal guidelines are available online. Economic Census provides valuable commerce information
North Minneapolis 55412 and 55411 zip codes contained 675 businesses with 9,181 employees and combined payrolls of $315,023,000 in 2004, according to the Economic Census. The bulk of businesses and employees are in 55411 (68% and 79%), which also accounts for 80% of the payroll total. The Economic Census provides a comprehensive breakdown of businesses by company size and type of business (detailed industrial classifications) but does not include business names or addresses. Allan Malkis, NorthWay’s Research and Evaluation Program Manager, plans to go back and look at previous Economic Censuses to determine any trends.
