Project Cease Fire II: Gun buy-back program

This Friday, June 2

On Friday from 10 a.m. - 10 p.m., people can turn in unloaded guns at Old Broadway Rental Building, 2102 W. Broadway, and receive $50 per revolver and $75 per semi-automatic weapon. A previous gun buy-back program proved so successful in February, that organizers – the Hennepin County African American Men Project with the support of more than 40 community organizations including NorthWay Community Trust – are holding a second Project Cease Fire event.

The Northside Art Collective and the Old Highland Neighborhood present the 2006 Spring Art Party on Saturday, June 3 from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. Bigger and better this year, the free outdoor family festival will be held at North Commons Park, 1801 James Ave. No.

Northside Arts

More than 75 artists, musical and performing groups, and food and refreshments, all reflective of the diverse North Minneapolis communities, will make the Spring Art Party a can’t-miss event!

Art also comes to NorthWay

Beginning in late June, NorthWay will feature the work of North Minneapolis artists at our West Broadway headquarters. A public reception for the artists will be held on July 18. Each quarter, a new group of artists will exhibit their work and be part of a community meet-and-greet. Watch for the July issue of The Beam for the first artists’ names and more information.

Patricia is NorthWay’s Board Secretary. Formerly, a State Program Administrator for the Minnesota Department of Human Services, Patricia is running for State Senate in Minneapolis' District 62.

Why NorthWay?

Bringing prosperity to North Minneapolis demands that we involve the community in the process of defining prosperity and how it can be achieved. NorthWay truly represents the community. NorthWay is working hard to make sure that North Minneapolis residents define prosperity in their own words and lay the path to change and success.

Hobbies/interests

Boating on the Mississippi and gardening. I’m interested in finding policy solutions to eliminate disparities and seeking resources to ensure that every child has an opportunity to grow up to be a productive and happy citizen.

The diversity of the neighborhoods and the commitment of long-term residents to the prosperity of North Minneapolis.
