The concert is free but reservations are requested. Youth Summit motivates area teensNorthWay Community Trust's first Youth Summit, "Old School, New School Coming Together," sparked both excitement and motivation for the teens attending the April 15 event at Afrocentric Academy. Youth addressed three main topics: racism/apathy, sexually transmitted diseases and gang violence. Dawn Renee Jones of Alchemy Theatre facilitated the day’s large group session, which began with factual background on each topic. After lunch, participants divided into topic groups and then reconvened to share what they had learned. An open microphone/talent show ended the day. The Youth Summit Planning Committee and NorthWay staff are looking for the best ways to follow up the event, attended by nearly 50 people. Northside Marketing Task Force moving aheadThe Northside Marketing Task Force – seeking a consultant to lead its planning process – is moving closer to making a hire. The task force’s steering committee recently met to review proposals submitted by marketing communications professionals. Members narrowed the field down to two finalists and will bring them in for interviews. The steering committee is set to make a decision in early June. After a consultant is hired, that person will help the task force devise a plan to change the way North Minneapolis is perceived. |

Why NorthWay?Many North Minneapolis residents strive to make a positive impact in our community. However, their efforts don’t hit the radar of the media, politicians and our neighbors in other parts of Minneapolis. NorthWay provides a structure to convene the individuals and organizations that make a difference in our community. It collectively works toward long-term solutions that are beneficial to the Northside. In addition, NorthWay demonstrates to a wide audience the spirit and dedication that North Minneapolis residents have in creating an environment of success for all residents.
