THE BEAM by Northway Community TrustHighlighting News and Information from North MinneapolisVol 1., No. 2 - Dec. 2005

The Beam is designed to keep you – our key partners and stakeholders – up to date and in the loop on North Minneapolis partnerships, programs and people. This monthly "quick read" provides current news briefs from NorthWay Community Trust and its partners.

Assessing and analyzing is committee's quest

Local experts have been tapped to provide assistance in designing an effective research and evaluation program for NorthWay. On the Research Advisory Committee are Roger Banks, Council on Black Minnesotans; Heather Britt, Minnesota Department of Education; Valeng Cha, Center for SE Asian Research and Education; Will Craig, Center for Urban and Regional Affairs (CURA), University of Minnesota; Ed Goetz, Hubert Humphrey School of Public Affairs, University of Minnesota; Bill McMahon, Career OneStop, Minnesota State Colleges and Universities (MNSCU); Herman Milligan, Wells Fargo Corporate Research; Sirad Osman, New Americans Center; T. Williams, Rainbow Research and David Zander, Council on Asian Pacific Minnesotans.

Over the next two months, the Committee will review the originally proposed progress indicators for health, economic, housing and community connections in North Minneapolis. The Committee has offered advice on how to track changes in neighborhoods without the expense of a large-scale, random-sample survey and will provide guidance on a pilot cross-community data collection process for Northwest Area Foundation. For more information on NorthWay’s Research Advisory Committee, contact Allan Malkis, Research & Evaluation Program Manager.

Why NorthWay?

I’ve been involved with NorthWay for three years now and I wanted to see it become successful. I believe in the opportunities that the Northwest Area Foundation is funding.

There really is strength in numbers. With NorthWay as catalyst, I’m seeing that happen right now in North Minneapolis. The community is starting to come together as one.

Hobbies/interests

I’m very interested in social justice and children’s issues. Also, I’m always looking to learn something new and now I’m exploring entrepreuership. For fun and relaxation, I love sewing and crafts.

Favorite thing about North Minneapolis

The great people. We have such an interesting mixture.

Favorite quote
